Sourav Purohit, a dedicated flautist, has been passionately playing for over 10 years. His love for the flute began in childhood, but lack of guidance delayed formal learning. At 16, while completing a Purohit Course, he was introduced to Vedic chanting and vocal training, which strengthened his musical foundation. A friend later introduced him to the flute, and though he could only afford a local one for Rs. 35/-, he began learning on his own, inspired by Lord Krishna.
Facing many challenges, including leaving school for his Purohit studies, Sourav resumed academics and continued playing during his devotional work. His talent was soon recognized by Swamini Vimalananda Ji, who gifted him a professional flute and introduced him to Guruji Shree Himanshu Nanda Ji, a disciple of Padma Vibhushan Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia Ji. Under their guidance, Sourav trained in the traditional Gurukul system, which deeply refined his music.
Later, he joined Bharati Vidyapeeth for a music degree and trained with Pt. Rajendra Kulkarni Ji. Despite financial hardships, he remained devoted to music and service. To make learning affordable, he founded Swara Sourav Academy, offering low-cost lessons in Flute, Guitar, Vocals, Tabla, and Keyboard. With over 300 students aged 5 to 70, and contributions to 50+ albums, Sourav continues to share his art and make flute learning accessible to all.
